The first official annual event of Natarang School of Dance as an institution. The annual day was held at the Mallesh Palya grounds. The event had a variety of events with students showcasing Classical dance, Bollywood dance, Folk dance, HipHop and Contemporary.
There were lot of students who gave their maiden performance with extreme confidence and grace. The event was graced by Guru. Smt. Geetha Gopinathan from Kalakshetra Chennai, as the Chief Guest.
Under the able advice and guidance of her parents and her Guru. Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale, Mrs. Geetha. A. Gopinathan was initiated into academics and fine arts at Kalakshetra, Chennai, at the age of 5 years.
Learning Bharatanatyam for 15 years in the same institution gave her ample opportunities to perform in India and Abroad. She has visited USSR, Europe, China and the Middle East. She has won the CCRT Scholarship for higher studies in dance at all India level. She has completed her BA in English in the year 1983.
She has been awarded the title “Aadal Peroli” by New Jersey Aadi Parashakti Temple. She has been teaching Bharatanatyam for the past 30years and has guided many MA, M.Phil and PhD students.
Presently, she along with her husband Mr. K. Gopinath, a leading Mridangist and Nattuvannar in Chennai, is running “Rukmini Kshetram”, an institution that imparts training in Bharatanatyam, Vocal, Mridangam, Yoga, Nattuvangam and Dance Theory.
Smt. Geetha, spoke words of wisdom and encouraged students to take up the art of Classical dance and also imbibe it in their lifestyles to become better personalities. She watched the children with extreme happiness and encouragement and later appreciated the performers.
This annual day gave the institution its official compere Kum. Gayathri Annapoorani. An Engineer by profession, but a girl with a melodious voice, Kum. Gayathri is not just a talented Compere, but more a wonderfully gifted singer. She has been a strong support to the institution through its inception and has become an important part of the Natarang Family.
